The away party stepped from the tunnel into the light. The sun was high and the weather was nice. Their surroundings seemed like that of any planet or stadium they had visited during their four year mission.
"Spock, what are we facing?" Captain Kirk growled.
"Based on the amount of cook fires we passed on the way here captain it is only logical to surmise our adversaries are none other than Halflings." The pointy eared Saurus replied.
The captain turned to look at the field as a large cauldron was wheeled to the side of the pitch and a fire lit below. Hundreds of fans were chanting and eating. Sometimes they were doing both at the same time, but a quick Heimlich maneuverer rectified any issue and normally resulted in the savour stealing some of the food.
"What am i looking at?"
"It's life Jim, but not as we know it." McCoy responded as he walked up behind Spock and the Captain. He was dangling a small round figure from his claws, inspecting it closely. “I’m not sure they will be much competition.”
McCoy couldn’t say anything further on the subject as a loud crash tore Their attention from the dangling figure, who had somehow found a chicken leg and begun to chow down. The first crash was followed a slow moment later by another. The three Saurus could see a huge tree had begun to lumber out onto the pitch.
"Bones, what's that?"
"I'm a Saurus not a gardener." McCoy responded.
“I believe Captain, that is a Treeman. Due to their size and strength, they are very hard to deal with.” Said Spock, one eyebrow raised.
As the referee blew his whistle calling the teams to the field, Kirk turned to the other two Saurus, his face grim.
“Ready the crew, for we are about to play against Halflings, to seek out touchdowns and to boldly go where no Lizard has gone before.”
“Erm, Jim, we played here last season.” Replied McCoy.
“Fair enough, but for god sake, don’t let anyone eat anything they are offered by one of those sneaky little gits, remember what happened last time, damn chef of their’s really took it out of us.”
With that Kirk turned to the pitch and led his team forward.
