18,000 fans turned out in the pouring rain to watch the Elfytubbies host Krul and the Gang in this early season fixture. The Elfytubbies won the toss and elected to kick the ball hoping that the heavy rain would disrupt the Orc possession and any efforts to pass the ball.
1st Half: In the early exchanges, both teams had players down but without any injuries until Gash of the Gang dealt a killer blow to Duggle Dee and the Elfytubbies were down to 10. Krul took possession of the ball and moved the Gang forward against a well orchestrated Elfytubbies defence, remembering the two failed attempts by Gereshk the troll in the previous game and with the relentless rain showing no signs of stopping; Krul opted to keep the ball in hand.
Inching forward and looking for little cracks in the Elfytubbies line, Krul spotted a chance on the left side and drove the Blockers in that direction to clear a path and form a protective screen. The move was obvious and spotted by the Elves who, weakened by the continual pounding, moved whoever was left standing around to meet the threat but it was too late. The Orc screen was holding but Krul, knowing that it left plenty of time for the elves to score in the first half, opted to make clear of the screen and go for it and he pushed forward into the end zone for the games first Touchdown.
At the kick off the Gang set for the pressure play dominating the LoS and awaited for the fast moving and slick passing of the elves to hit them and dodge past but it wasn't to be. There was some fantastic plays but the final move couldn't be finished off and some terribly unlucky rolls saw the ball knocked free and scooped up by Blitzer Lash of the the Gang. Big hits were pouring in on the Elfytubbies as a few players were KO'd and suddenly they were down to six players with half of them still down. In desperation the elves still tried to slow down the Orc cage but as the blockers cleared the last elf out of the way Lash stepped out of the cage into the gap and burst into the end zone for a second TD to the Gang.
At 2-0 down and only a few turns left before half time, the Gang thought that the Elfytubbies would sit back to avoid any further damage to their remaining players. They were surprised to see that the persistent elves were pushing forward in desperation to get a score and it was only after a turnover from the Elftubbies only yards from the orc line that time was called and so ended a frantic and highly entertaining first half.
2nd Half: The Gang, at full strength lined up against the six remaining Elfytubbies and at 2-0 up you would expect to take it easy for the second half but the Gang were having none of it and came out looking to make some more big hits. Krul put the ball mid way into the Elftubbies half slightly left field with the aim of isolating a player looking to make the pick up. The opening few plays were a blur of mad scrambling and a series of handling errors that saw the ball pop up once again in favour of the Gang. Sheer weight of numbers now told as Blitzer Kargah ran in for the Gangs third TD of the game.
At the kick off the Elfytubbies managed to get a few players back on the pitch and at this point the experience of the Coach shone through with some great Elf running and passing combinations and side stepped around the Gang. The Elftubbies made a big burst towards the end zone and were stopped 10 yards out with every Orc, Goblin and Troll making tackles count and once again forcing the ball out. Heading into the final quarter of the game it was now the Gang who showed a few slick moves and burst out and Brikbat handed off to fellow Blitzer Shank who set off over the half way line and twice went for it before he realised he was isolated from his team mates but the threat was from only one Elfytubbies Blitzer who was already in contact with a member of the Gang.
Facing a 4-0 drubbing the Elftubbies Blitzer Dipsy dodged out of a tackle zone and went for it to put in a big blitz on Shank. What a hit, shank was down and the ball was out, gone were the chances of a fourth TD as ball was recovered by the Elfytubbies but there was no more opportunities to score and that was the end of a highly memorable match.
The 3-0 scoreline was fairly flattering for the Gang who learnt a lot of valuable lessons from this great coach of the Elfytubbies opposite them this evening. Lessons that they will have to remember if they want keep moving forward for the rest of the season.
